Published 27 October 2022

As a business, it’s important to track the success of your email campaigns, and Shopify allows you to do just that. By enabling tracking in your Shopify emails, you can see helpful information such as open rates, click rates, and order totals.

To enable or disable tracking in Shopify emails, go to Settings > Notifications. Scroll down to “Shopify Email open tracking” and toggle the option that suits your store. Tracking can be enabled or disabled for all future Shopify email marketing campaigns.

This post will show you how to enable or disable tracking in Shopify emails. So, whether you’re just getting started with email marketing or looking for ways to improve your tracking abilities, read on for some helpful tips.

How to adjust tracking in Shopify emails

1. Log in to your Shopify account

The first step to managing your Shopify email tracking is to log into your account. You will need your email address and password handy. Once you have entered this information, the site will take you to your account dashboard.

You can access all of the features and settings associated with your Shopify account from the dashboard.

Tip: Be sure to familiarize yourself with it so that you can easily find what you need when managing your email tracking.

2. Go to “Settings”

Once you are in your Shopify dashboard, you will want to navigate to the “Settings“. You’ll find this on the bottom-left of the page.

Here you will see various options for managing different aspects of your Shopify account and store. These options range from Payment settings to Shipping and Delivery.

4. Choose your preferred tracking option

Once you are in the Notifications settings, scroll down until you see the option for “Shopify email open tracking“. From there, you can choose whether or not to enable tracking on your Shopify emails.

There are four options for analytics to choose from:

  • Optimize open tracking – Choose this option to balance tracking email open rates with maintaining your sender reputation.
  • Ask for consent – By default, email opens will not be tracked. Subscribers will be able to opt-in to tracking through the footer of your emails. Your open rate will be reported based on subscribers who opt-in, combined with overall engagement.
  • Do not track – Your email open rate will not be reported. You will still be able to see other metrics, such as the number of clicks from subscribers in your emails.
  • Track all email opens – See how many subscribers open your emails. This will provide the most accurate reporting into open behavior.

If you choose “Optimize open tracking”, Shopify will track email opens while ensuring data privacy compliance and helping sender reputation with email systems.

If you choose “Track all emails,” Shopify will track every email for more detailed reporting.

Choose “Do not track” if you want to disable tracking on your Shopify emails.

Choosing “Track all email opens” will track all of them and possibly cause some reputation damage.

How do I get email notifications from Shopify?

You can easily get email notifications from Shopify by going to Settings > Notifications > and then scrolling down to the “Staff order notifications” section. Here is where you can enable or disable email notifcations.

Final thoughts

Managing your Shopify email tracking is a crucial step in understanding the success of your email marketing campaigns. Following these five steps, you can easily enable or disable tracking in your Shopify emails.

Be sure to consider your customers’ privacy and the detail you want in your reports when deciding which tracking option to go with. Happy email marketing!
