Getting people to sign up for marketing emails in Shopify during checkout allows you to stay in touch with your customers. But how do you go about getting them to sign up for email marketing, to begin with?
To sign people up for marketing at checkout on Shopify, go to Settings and select “Checkout”. Then, scroll down to the “Consent for marketing” section. You can also preselect the option for your customers.

1. Go to “Settings”, then “Checkout”
Log into your Shopify dashboard. Then, go to “Settings” > then “Checkout”. On Shopify Plus accounts, it will show “Checkout and accounts”.

2. Scroll down to ”Consent for marketing” & enable “Email marketing”
This will allow your customers to subscribe to your email list when they checkout. You can also enable “Preselect the option“. This ensures that your customers have, by default, checked the box to sign up for emails from you.
This will increase your email signups. The only time this will not sign someone up is if they manually uncheck the option to sign up for emails or if they have already unsubscribed from emails from your shop in the past.
Keep in mind that this step is a little different if your shop is in Germany. Germany has extremely strict email marketing laws, so you must also allow people to confirm if they are interested in receiving emails from you.
Once you’ve checked the options discussed above, click Save at the bottom of the page to confirm your selection.
Customizing the checkout labels for marketing consent
You can also customize the checkout labels by clicking the “Customize checkout labels” link in the top-right of the section.
You will be brought to a new page which allows you to customize all of the text as shown below. Leaving the text boxes empty will use the default text created by Shopify.
