Shopify is one of the biggest eCommerce platforms in the world, and it’s widely used by a lot of people, but it has one small flaw. You may not be able to remove the “Powered by Shopify” line at the end of the page unless you know how to edit the code.
Why would you want to remove this line? Well, there are two reasons for that. The first one is that it’s much safer for a website owner to keep this information a secret. It can be easy to figure out how to get access to a website’s dashboard if the provider is public.
The second reason is that you will be considered more trustworthy by your customers if you don’t associate yourself with any third parties.
If you looked this problem up before, you may have found Shopify’s instructions on how to remove the “Powered by Shopify” line from your theme’s setting, but that won’t always work.
Instead, there’s a much better and faster solution to remove the “Powered by Shopify” line.
1. Locate the “Actions” button
The first thing you want to do is go to your Shopify Dashboard and then go to Themes. In your Themes screen, you will see two options: “Actions” and “Customize.” For this step, you need to click on “Actions.”
2. Click on “Edit Code”
A menu will open, and you will need to click on “Edit Code” button. This will open your website’s code tabs.
3. Locate the “footer.liquid” tab
At this point, you need to be careful. The theme code will open, and you shouldn’t delete anything except for the “Powered by Shopify” code. For now, find the “footer.liquid” tab and click on it.
4. Search for the “powered_by_link” line
All you need to do now is locate the “powered_by_link” line and delete it completely. This is the code that shows the “Powered by Shopify” line in your website’s footer.
After you delete that line, don’t forget to save your new settings using the “Save” button in the upper right corner. You can easily see if it worked by going on any page of the website and checking the footer. You shouldn’t see the ‘Powered by Shopify” line anymore.
The other option would have been to do into the “Edit languages” tab from the second step and try to locate the “powered by Shopify html” line. Unfortunately, that option doesn’t work with most themes, and when it works, it only affects the main page.
An important thing you need to keep in mind is the fact that if you change your theme, you will need to go through this process again to remove Powered by Shopify.
