How to Remove ‘Powered by Shopify’ From Your Footer in 30 Seconds

powered by shopify

Shopify is one of the biggest eCommerce platforms in the world, and it’s widely used by a lot of people, but it has one small flaw. You may not be able to remove the “Powered by Shopify” line at the end of the page unless you know how to edit the code.

Why would you want to remove this line? Well, there are two reasons for that. The first one is that it’s much safer for a website owner to keep this information a secret. It can be easy to figure out how to get access to a website’s dashboard if the provider is public.

The second reason is that you will be considered more trustworthy by your customers if you don’t associate yourself with any third parties.

If you looked this problem up before, you may have found Shopify’s instructions on how to remove the ‘Powered by Shopify’ line from your theme’s setting, but that won’t always work.

Instead, there’s a much better and faster solution to remove the ‘Powered by Shopify’ line.

Quick guide

Simply go to your dashboard, click on ‘Online store’, click the ‘Actions’ button and then click ‘Edit code’. Find the ‘footer.liquid’ files and open it. Search for the word ‘powered’ and you will find the line with the text ‘powered_by_link’. Delete this line completely and click the Save button.

1. Go to ‘Online Store’ > Click ‘Actions’ > Click ‘Edit code’

The first thing you want to do is go to your Shopify Dashboard and then go to ‘Online Store‘. This will open the ‘Themes’ section. In your ‘Themes‘ section, you will see two options – ‘Actions‘ and ‘Customize‘. For this step, you need to click on ‘Actions‘, then click on ‘Edit code‘.

At this point, you need to be careful. The theme code will open, and you shouldn’t delete anything except for the ‘Powered by Shopify’ code. For now, find the ‘footer.liquid’ tab and click on it.

4. Search for the word ‘powered’

All you need to do now is locate the line that includes ‘powered_by_link‘ and delete it. You can search by using Ctrl + F on Windows or Cmd + F on Mac, then typing the word ‘powered‘.

The code in the red box below is the code that shows the ‘Powered by Shopify’ line in your website’s footer. All you need to do is highlight the line of code shown in the red box and delete it.

5. Click ‘Save’

After you delete that line, don’t forget to save your new settings using the ‘Save’ button in the upper right corner. You can easily see if it worked by going on any page of the website and checking the footer. You shouldn’t see the ‘Powered by Shopify’ line any more.
