Shopify is one of the most user-friendly eCommerce platforms available. Sometimes though, it can be a challenge to change a Shopify store name and domain, but it’s definitely not impossible.

From your Dashboard, you can either change your store name and add or remove the domains directing to your store.

Let’s take a look at how to change your store’s name!

How To Change A Shopify Store Name

Your settings will apply instantly and your store will start showing your new name in the header and footer of your store.

Of course, if you’re changing the name of your store, you may also need to change the domain in order to match. Thankfully, Shopify allows you to add and redirect new and existing domains.

How To Change A Shopify Domain

1. Open Your “Domains” Settings

From your Dashboard, you need to go to your online store settings and then click on “Domains.”

2. Choose Your Option

In this window, you have three options. You can either connect an existing domain, transfer a domain or buy a new domain. Let’s take a look at each option.

Connect Existing Domain

If you already have a domain, but it’s with another provider, you can choose this option and add it to your Shopify store. You will need to change your “A” and “CNAME” records in your hosting panel and wait for it to load. This won’t move your domain to a different provider. You just set it up to redirect to Shopify.

After this step, you can either leave it as a redirect, or set it to be your “Primary domain.” This is a good option if you want to have all the domains with your name and need them all redirecting to your store, or if you have multiple similar domains for your business.

Transfer Domain

You can use this option if you have a domain with another provider and you want to move it to Shopify. In order to do this, you need to make sure that your domain is eligible for transfer. This usually means that the domain has been with the current registrar for more than 70 days.

With this option, you will move your domain and hosting to the Shopify servers. This can be a great option if you need a specialized host. As Shopify is an eCom platform, their servers are designed to hold a large number of visitors, so your website won’t encounter downtimes.

Buy A New Domain

If you don’t already have a domain, you can buy one directly from your Dashboard. You can search for the name you want and buy a new domain. If you choose this option, you will be able to transfer your domain from Shopify as soon as it becomes eligible for transfer, meaning it’s not stuck with Shopify.

If you decide to close your Shopify store, make sure to first transfer your new domain to a new provider.

So, if your business goes through a rebranding process, you may want to know how to change your Shopify store name and domain. It would be a shame to create all the new graphics and not be able to change the basic settings of your store.
