Quick Guide

To connect your Google Home to WiFi, open the Google Home app, tap on the plus symbol in the top corner, and set up the device. During setup, choose a WiFi network. If you have already set up the device, have the device forget the WiFi network it’s connected to and set it up again.

In the paragraphs below, I’ll explain how to connect a Google Home device that has not been set up yet and how to connect a device to a different WiFi network after it has already been connected to a WiFi network.

Connect to WiFi During Setup

Connecting to WiFi while setting up your Google Home device is the first and simple step.

After turning the device on, follow the prompts to set it up. During this process, you will be asked to choose a WiFi network to connect the device.

Select your home WiFi network and enter your password. If the password is correct and the network is online, the device will automatically connect to the network.

After completing the setup process, your Google Home device will be connected to the internet and ready to use.

Change Your Google Home’s Network Connection

If you have already set up your Google Home device and need to change the WiFi network it’s connected to, you can change the network by instructing it to forget the current WiFi network or factory reset the device.

Factory resetting the device follows the same process I’ve outlined above.

Here is how to change the WiFi network without resetting the device:

  1. Open the Google Home app on your phone.
  2. Locate the Google Home device you want to change the WiFi network for.
  3. Touch and hold the device’s name in the app.
  4. In the top right corner, there will be a WiFi setting option. There will also be an option that says “forget.”
  5. Tap on “forget” to have the Google Home disconnect from the WiFi network it is currently connected to.
  6. You can set up the device again and connect it to the new and preferred WiFi network.

Conclusion

Changing the WiFi network that your Google Home is connected to or connecting a new device to WiFi is a fairly straightforward process. It involves following the instructions in the app during the setup process, selecting your WiFi network, and entering your WiFi password correctly.
